3D Scanning
What is 3D Scanning?
3D Scanning is the process of taking a physical object and putting it into a scanning machine that produces a computer model of the object. The scan will only describe the external surface of the object, not its internal structure.
Who can use 3D Scanning?
Its use is limited only by the imagination. Consider the following examples:
- an animator can use a scanner to obtain a physical model of a person's face (or a dog or cat!) and then use the model to create an animation
- If you wish to create a spare part that fits into a plug or holder just right, you can scan the plug or holder, edit it a little, and then create your part
- Make a duplicate of a part you have - beware of copyright issues though!
- Make a physical model of your head and put it on your shelf
